Recently, Google announced an update to its algorithm called the “Helpful Content Update”. This update aims to eliminate low-quality content from search results and places more importance on content created by people, for people. Basically, if you’re creating content “for Google” (keyword stuffing, for example) you’re in trouble. If you’re creating original content for users and real people, you’re going to love this update.

Google’s update boldly expresses that all of your content should be written for people. Real people should create it so that real people can read it and learn from it. Your brand’s voice and style can flourish now as your content is published. If you’re creating people-first content, users on your site will have a much better experience, think more highly of your brand, and learn more about the topic you’re writing about.

How do you know if you’re creating people-first content in the first place? There are a few simple, but very important questions to consider to evaluate your existing content.

1) Does your website and content have a clear focus?

2) Do you have an intended audience that will learn and benefit from your content?

3) Does your content offer in-depth value? Do you show deep knowledge and expertise? Does your content offer enough context to satisfy a user’s initial search?

If you answered yes to these questions, your search rankings should not be negatively affected and might even improve because of this new update. If you’re using your expertise to provide value to users by fully answering their questions, Google wants to rank your content higher in search results. All content should be created as completely and detailed as possible for the sole purpose of helping your users answer their search.
